Project: Hyde Park, Gateshead
Our team were instructed by The Gateshead Regeneration Partnership to undertake the design and associated Road Safety Audits of the cycle routes associated with the provision of 62 new dwellings, located on Hyde Park Street, to the south of the town centre.
This was an exciting project to be a part of. As all of the houses would be affordable units and 20 have been specially designed for the Jewish community. The Gateshead Regeneration Partnership includes Gateshead Council, Vistry North East and Home Group. With Adler Housing joining on this scheme as a registered provider of social housing under the Jewish Community Council of Gateshead. These specialist houses have been designed to be large enough to accommodate extended families. They include a sukkah, a room with a retractable roof, and kitchens compatible with observance of Kosher dietary practices.
Homes England are supporting this innovative development on land which has remained empty for more than a decade. Therefore accelerating the delivery of the new homes, which will include affordable rent and shared ownership options.
Our Design Team designed the cycle routes that will connect the homes to the wider cycle networks within Gateshead. Looking at on-street cycle options and the associated infrastructure, including new direction signage which will benefit all cyclists within the town. Our designs were then subject to an independent Road Safety Audit. Which reviews the proposals to ensure there are no issues or concerns relating to the safety of all road users. We were pleased to receive the auditor’s report which highlighted no significant issues with our proposals. We are looking forward to seeing the scheme now delivered on site.
