Welcoming Jack to the team!

21st August 2026

We’re delighted to welcome Jack to the Milestone team! Jack is at the beginning of his journey and stepping into the role of Graduate Transport Planner. He has recently graduated the University of Gloucestershire. We are super excited to have Jack join our Midlands office in Birmingham. Furthermore, we look forward to seeing him grow and develop within the team. So lets find out more about him!

How did you get into Transport Planning?

I grew up in Brussels, Belgium, where I attended secondary school before moving back to the UK to study Urban Planning at the University of Gloucestershire in Cheltenham. I graduated in 2026.
My degree focused primarily on planning, but thanks to the support and expertise of Jon Harris, our small class benefited from a uniquely detailed learning experience. This gave me the opportunity to develop a strong understanding of transport planning and active travel alongside the core planning curriculum. I also completed placements in transport planning, which helped me gain valuable practical experience and confirmed that it was the career path I wanted to pursue.
I now live in Cheltenham and am excited to continue developing my career in transport planning.

What skills are you most looking forward to develop and why

I’m looking forward to developing all of my skills as I continue to gain experience, but I’m particularly interested in learning how to use PICADY and ARCADY.

I’m also excited to build my technical knowledge by becoming more proficient with software such as Junctions 10 and Junctions 11. As a result, developing these skills will help me produce more detailed transport assessments and broaden the range of projects I can contribute to.

Your favourite project you’ve worked on and what are you looking forward to?

My dissertation on the Gloucestershire cycle spine and how its completion effected travel in Cheltenham which I compared against national and international best practice.

I enjoy going on site visits and getting to see different parts of the country while also being able to be active.

The types of projects that interest you most

I enjoy all aspects of transport planning, as each project brings different challenges and opportunities to learn. However, I am particularly interested in projects that support the transition to clean energy. For example, developing transport plans for renewable energy developments like wind and solar farms. Being able to contribute to more sustainable infrastructure is especially rewarding to me.

What you enjoy doing outside of work

I enjoy running and usually complete one marathon and three or four half marathons each year. I also try to take part in parkrun every Saturday morning.

A fun fact about me is that I’m the Local Legend of Cooper’s Hill, home of the famous cheese rolling event in Gloucestershire. This means I’ve run up the hill’s 50% gradient more times than anyone else this year!

Quick Fire Round

  • Tea or coffee? Neither, I don't like hot drinks
  • Favourite mode of transport? Tube
  • Dream project? A Skyscraper
  • Favourite place you’ve visited? Croatian Coast
  • Biggest transport pet peeve? Sitting in the Quiet coach and another person is watching films out loud
  • Best snack for a long journey? Mini Cheddars

and finally…

Your best piece of advice for an aspiring Transport Planner, I would say it is important to be willing to learn. Transport planning is a broad field, so there is always something new to understand and develop. You need to build a strong knowledge base while also considering factors beyond planning itself, including design, engineering, environmental, and community impacts. Being open to learning from colleagues in different disciplines and gaining experience across a range of projects will help you grow and become a more effective transport planner.

Jack will be based in our Midlands office in Birmingham, operating from our new home at Runway East, Arca, in the heart of Birmingham City Centre. The new space reflects an exciting period of growth for the business. Consequently, it creates more opportunities to collaborate with clients across the region. At the same time, we continue to expand our talented team. For more information click here.
