Welcoming Michael to Milestone

21st May 2026

We’re delighted to welcome Michael to the Milestone team! With the launch of our new Birmingham base last year, it’s an exciting time to be joining us, with new projects underway, new office, the team continuing to grow, and a whole new area to explore. We sat down with Michael to ask a few quick-fire questions and get to know him a little better!

How did you get into Engineering?

I joined Milestone Transport Planning as a Principal Engineer, bringing years of experience across residential development, infrastructure and construction projects.

After studying Civil Engineering, I built my career working closely with developers, consultants, and local authorities, delivering projects from planning through to construction.

My experience covers highway and drainage design, foundation design and assessment, utility coordination, and the management of statutory agreements including Sections 38, 278 and 104. Over time, I became increasingly involved in highway design, access strategies, and development infrastructure, which naturally led me to Milestone.

Your favourite project you’ve worked on

One of my favourite projects was a 55-home residential development at Martley in Worcestershire. I was responsible for coordinating the technical delivery of the scheme. Working alongside consultants, utility providers, contractors, and local authorities to navigate a range of engineering and planning challenges.

What made Martley particularly rewarding was the opportunity to help shape both the engineering and environmental aspects of the development. The scheme placed a strong emphasis on landscape-led design and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), creating an opportunity to balance practical infrastructure requirements with environmental and visual benefits. I’m passionate about developments that work with their surroundings, and it was satisfying to contribute to a scheme that integrated drainage, landscape and placemaking into a cohesive design.

Why Milestone?

What excites me most about joining Milestone is the opportunity to work on a wider variety of transport and highway schemes while contributing to the growth of the business. I’m particularly interested in projects that combine highway design, development infrastructure and strategic transport solutions. Having spent much of my career on the developer side of projects, I’m also looking forward to bringing that perspective into the consultancy environment. Understanding how developments are delivered, the challenges clients face. How technical decisions impact construction and commercial outcomes helps create practical solutions that work for everyone involved.

Quick Fire Round

  • Tea or coffee? Coffee
  • Favourite mode of transport? Car
  • Dream project? Any project that promotes water, energy, and landscape improvements.
  • Favourite place you’ve visited? Ischia (Italy)
  • Biggest transport pet peeve? Delayed/Cancelled Trains with no explanation
  • Best snack for a long journey? Biltong (South African bias)

and finally…

Your best piece of advice for an aspiring Transport Planner/Highway design engineer. Don’t just focus on design standards and software. Take the time to understand how projects are delivered, how developers think, how local authorities make decisions and what happens during construction. Technical knowledge is important and key to Milestone, but understanding the bigger picture is what turns good engineers into great engineers.

Michael will be based in our Midlands office in Birmingham, operating from our new home at Runway East, Arca, in the heart of Birmingham City Centre. The new space reflects an exciting period of growth for the business, creating more opportunities to collaborate with clients across the region while continuing to expand our talented team.
